Western 649 Lottery Winner Falls Down The Stairs After The News, But Look What He Bought Straight After

When Warren Mead realised he held a winning ticket in Canada's Western 649 on Sunday, he was excited.

So excited - that he fell down the stairs while trying to find someone to double check his tickets.

"I fell down the stairs trying to show my daughter and her boyfriend," he laughed.

The couple confirmed his win, but then Mead didn't know what to do.

So the Calgarian went and bought a toaster, a vacuum cleaner, and a fireproof safe. Why?

Warren bought his winning ticket from this Shoppers Drug Mart in Midnapore, Calgary.

“The toaster and vacuum cleaner were for my son and his girlfriend,” Mead explained. “I bought the safe to make sure nothing happened to the ticket before I could claim the prize.”

Mead had picked up the ticket from a Shoppers Drug Mart. It was a free play he had won on a previous draw.

“I had a bunch of tickets, so I thought I’d go through and check them,” he remembered.

“I started going through, comparing the winning numbers to my tickets. And then I got to this one, and I saw that all the numbers matched!”

He redeemed the prize for the October 3 draw at the Shoppers Drug Mart, at 1000-150 Millrise Blvd SW.

He plans to use the winnings to help his family, and secure his retirement.

“I’m going to be debt-free forever,” he said. “I’ve just gone from ‘Freedom 85’ to ‘Freedom 60’.”
