Donald and Maureen Davis of Edmonton with their Western Max sign for $1,000,000 at the presentation.
For Donald Davis it was a normal weekend in many ways - except one. As usual he woke up, fired up his computer and checked his lottery numbers with the Western Lotto website. Then he made breakfast.
But this morning was different. Donald Davis checked his lotto numbers before his wife woke up.
When she walked into the kitchen a few hours later, he was making breakfast and told her he had a surprise. Then he handed her a winning million-dollar lotto ticket.
"I woke up and saw Don making some bacon," said Maura Davis.
"He showed me the ticket with the number underlined and I could not believe it. I still can't believe it!"
"Every weekend, I wake up in the morning and check the numbers on our computer," said Donald. "I saw we had won and underlined the row of numbers. Then I started making breakfast."
The new winners bought their ticket from the Westmount Centre in Edmonton.
While the couple said they have no immediate plans for their winnings, they plan on putting money away for their future.
"At this stage, we have everything we need," said Donald. "We don't owe anything. So we'll take a little for ourselves and put some in savings. Then we'll celebrate with the family."
