133 players shared a UK Lotto jackpot of £16.2 million

On Saturday, 14th January 1995 opened up a chance event for players in the UK National Lottery.

That day 133 players shared a Lotto jackpot of £16.2 million. The winning numbers for that draw that they all chose were 7, 17, 23, 32, 38, and 42.

The reason why so many ticket holders had selected the same numbers was simple - because those numbers were printed in the central columns of the playslip.

As a result of the large number of winners, each winner received a relatively smaller share of the jackpot, amounting to £122,510.

This event is often mentioned in talks about lottery strategies and how players' choices and playslip designs can affect prize distribution.

The UK National Lottery, also known simply as the Lotto, is a state-franchised lottery in the United Kingdom, established in 1994. Camelot UK, the owner of the UK National Lottery, has been bought in 2023 for a reported £100 million (US$115.3m).

The new owner is Allwyn Entertainment, owned by Czech billionaire Karel Komarek.

It offers various games, but the main game is known as Lotto.
