Quincy woman scratch-off winner scoops $1 million - it's the first time she played lotto

Imagine walking into a store, buying a lotto ticket for the first time, and then finding out you've just won $1 million.

This sounds like a plot from a feel-good movie, but for Midoriko-Mariam Takeuchi, a Quincy resident, this fairytale became her reality.

Here’s how her incredible stroke of luck panned out that day.

Midoriko-Mariam was just going about her day, heading into Point Liquors on Washington Street in Quincy to use the ATM.

That's when she spotted a new holiday scratch ticket called "$2,500,000 Holiday Magic" on display.

On a whim, she decided to buy one, spending $10. What happened next was beyond her wildest dreams.

The ticket she bought, on her very first try, was a winner — and not just any winner. It was a $1 million jackpot.

After choosing how to receive her winnings, Midoriko-Mariam went for the annuity option. This means instead of getting all the money at once, she'll receive $50,000 every year for 20 years, before taxes.

She mentioned that she plans to use some of this unexpected windfall to pay off her student loan, making her life a bit easier.

The store that sold the lucky ticket, Point Liquors, also got a piece of the pie. They received a $10,000 bonus just for selling the winning ticket.
